Review Fey Regency

Oh my goodness, Fey Regency! What a wild, fun ride that was! S. Rodman continues to impress with their ability to weave together a dark and intriguing world with genuinely heartwarming romance. This third installment in the Fey Lords series expertly balances the darker elements of fae lore – betrayals, power struggles, and a touch of the unsettling – with a truly captivating love story between Ollie, our grumpy human protagonist, and Tristan, the sunshine-y himbo prince.

I absolutely adored the enemies-to-lovers dynamic. Ollie's initial attempts to assassinate Tristan are deliciously chaotic, setting the stage for a relationship that’s both spicy and surprisingly sweet. The shift from animosity to affection is believable, thanks to Rodman's skillful character development. Ollie’s inner turmoil, his stubbornness, and his justifiable anger are all incredibly relatable, making him a character you simultaneously want to hug and shake at the same time! His constant internal arguments were hilarious and a great way to showcase his complex emotions stemming from his difficult past.

Tristan, on the other hand, is a breath of fresh air. He's the kind of character that subverts expectations; a seemingly harmless (yet powerful) prince who uses his charm and unwavering optimism to chip away at Ollie's prickly exterior. Their size difference adds an interesting dynamic to their interactions, and the author handles it with sensitivity and humor.

The world-building continues to be a strong point. I loved seeing familiar faces from previous books, and the way the story incorporates the larger narrative arc of the fae takeover adds depth and context without feeling overwhelming. The interconnectedness of Rodman's series is a delightful bonus, rewarding loyal readers with glimpses into the lives of characters from other books and expanding the overall world. It's like being invited into a wonderfully intricate and well-developed universe.

While some reviewers mentioned the quick resolution of certain conflicts, I personally didn't find it problematic. The pacing worked well for the story, allowing the focus to remain on Ollie and Tristan's relationship. The ending, however, left me breathless, with several intriguing plot points set up for future installments. I immediately wanted to know what would happen next!

Honestly, my only minor quibble is that I wished we'd gotten even more into Tristan's headspace. While he's charming and well-defined, a little deeper insight into his motivations and inner thoughts might have solidified the connection even further for me. But that's a small complaint in the grand scheme of things.

Overall, Fey Regency is a fantastic addition to the Fey Lords series. It’s a captivating blend of dark fantasy, enemies-to-lovers romance, and witty banter. The spice level is definitely turned up, adding a fiery element to the story. If you enjoy dark romantasy with a touch of humor and a guaranteed happily ever after, I highly recommend giving this book a read. You won’t be disappointed! Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go reread it… and then immediately start the next book in the series!
